One of my personal rants is seeing the saying "Think Young". Yes there are many positives of being younger. The problem is many compare the positives of being younger with the negatives of being older. Let's correct this and list positives of being older. When I thought of this I realized I needed more suggestions than what I have thought of. If you want to throw in some negatives of being younger - that's okay too. I'll start us off. Please add to it.
Think Old list
1. Experienced
2. Loyal
3. Personal beliefs established

Well the only "positive" I can think of is that I'm still alive at age ____. I know I have lived this long - someone who is 20 doesn't know for sure whether they will ever be my age. Yes, they probably will reach my age and beyond, but no one knows that for SURE.

So the advantage is this: I'm not dead yet!

Nice idea! Let's see-

1. History and politics make more sense.
2. Reading fiction or non fiction is more satisfying as there is more context.
3. Style has replaced trend for me. I have developed my personal style.
4. I have more disposable income, for the time being!
5. I am much more connected to women now than as a younger woman.
6. I am much more relaxed about time and lists.
7. I am less afraid to fail at something, and so I try new things more readily.

Big life choices have already been made - if and when to have kids, where to live (though apparently I may have to re-decide this for retirement), Bernina or other (other), Mac or PC (both).

I am now less dogmatic about almost everything and though I have mostly been told I am adaptable and patient about most things, I feel I am even more so now. But I also know my bottom line more clearly now and don't allow myself to be pushed over it.

We were working on a tiny thing the other day that DH was really pushing for and in my 20's I would have gone along with it and inwardly fumed. This time I tried for half an hour and gave it my best shot. When we got to the 2nd or 3rd iteration I just said "I really don't like this and don't want to do it." Done. Period. Don't waste anymore time on this!

I'm not older, myself, but starting with my grandmother, have loved and respected elderly people my entire life!

Here are three that seem immensely important:

1.Wisdom (vs naivete, lack of experience, lack of knowledge)
2.Pragmatism
3.Realism (vs idealism -- relates to #2)

Societies need the older generation!

Well, I'm still "middling" but I can think of some advantages to being older than the young chicks.

1) Young people tend to be idealistic, and often think less about cause and effect. Those of us with more life experience tend to look at things more rationally.

2) We have a context of history, not only from our own lifetime, but to some extent, what our parents told us about their lifetime experiences. Therefore, we are less removed from the reality of WWII, the Cold War (and the worldwide impact of a strong Russia/Soviet Union), Watergate, protests in the late 1960's and early 1970's, the se#### revolution, the beginning stages of the Aids crisis, and so on. We know that if people do not remember and learn from the past, that it will repeat itself (like genocide, Nazi movements, etc.). We are more aware of what life was like with only 4 TV channels, and what it was like NOT being plugged into a great worldwide communication network 24/7/365.

3) Many of us have gained patience, due to living through life experiences, and knowing that things don't always resolve quickly, but sooner or later, they do resolve, somehow.

4) There's a certain freedom in no longer being as "attractive" as we were as younger women, and continually desiring to be seen as attractive. To me, that has been one factor in increasing my body acceptance.

At some point, you may be able to quit working. I call that a huge plus!

No more periods!!!!Yay and mega yay!

No more PMS, wahoo!

The mortgage is paid!

I could care less if I have to take my clothes off for the doctor.

Younger women become good friends unlike earlier more competitive times.

People like to hear my stories. At least that's what they tell me!

Kids are established in decent happy lives.

With a little planning and work, Social Security checks can make great fabric budgets!

Our house taxes get cut in half!

I appreciate a good cocktail.

I could go on and on. There are lots of great things about not being a PYT, although I did enjoy being one back in the day!

I love going places whenever I want without worry of getting back in time to get a kid from school or off to a sports event. Don't get me wrong. Love my three kids but now that they are all well over 21 it has it's perks:)

Inner peace comes with age. Many phases have passed and now in retirement I'm lucky to have happy children, grandchildren, and acceptance of things that will not be. Happy with life and comfortable in my skin.

Absolutely loving my Janome 500e embroidery machine, very creative. Problem with all my stash for clothing!
