I am new to sewing.very new. I have had my machine for about 3 years now and I have made one apron, simple curtains for the kids room and a halloween hanging thing. Anyway, I plugged my machine in and the light will come on but it won't do anything else. nothing! I have asked my mom, my MIL, my sister (all of which have been sewing for years and years) They have no idea what has happened to the dang thing. I have tried different outlets. I called Brother and all the guy could say was I would have to take it into a shop and pay to have it looked at. He had no idea what was wrong with it. Have any of you heard or seen this? My machine was only $130 and I don't want to spend $75 just to have it looked and not even fixed.

The board in it may have died (a bit unusual after so little time). It sounds like you have tried this but unplug it and turn it on and off. Make sure you have the foot plugged in all the way too. I am not sure what else it could be either. I wouldn't want to pay at least $75 to get it looked at. You could put that toward another machine (lots on sale this time of year at dealers and big box stores). So sorry you are having this trouble.

That has happened to me on some machines. Since the light goes on, when you plug it in, you know your electrical lead cord still works. Motors and stuff don't just die while a machine is turned off and not being used at all, most times. But it might not be plugged in all the way. So unplug it, and also flip it around a bit. If all those other people were not using your machine in the mean time, and only you and it worked just fine the last time you used it, and just sitting there in one place safely ever since, chances are it is just fine, and there is probably nothing wrong with it at all, and you are probably just doing something different instead.

If instead someone else was using it last, or handled it last, and it stopped working while they where in the middle of sewing for them, and you don't know what happened then, then that might be different. Also if you got more than one foot pedal laying around, maybe you got the wrong one plugged in even? Or was that put away someplace it could have been damaged?

I personally would not pay over $70 to just only, find out what was wrong with it either, particular if that did not "fix it", as I think that would be silly and a waste of money! I would get a free estimate someplace else instead actually. Or, why not just take it to a sewing machine store instead, and tell them your foot pedal fails to work, and you want to buy a new good working one from them, (on the spot) as soon as they plug it in for you first, to prove that one would work instead. And then do that if so. That way, if that did not work, it would not cost you any money at all.... that is what I would do. Try that, I think you got nothing to loose at all, by doing that.

I'm in agreement that this could be a foot control problem which
I believe is fixable. But let us know the model .

My aunt called, and that had happened to her Brother machine. She thought the motor was frozen. I went over and looked, and she had pushed the bobbin winder knob in as if she were going to wind a bobbin. But there was no bobbin on it, so the machine just stared at her. Don't know if that could be your problem, but you might check.

This is unfortunately why these are called "disposable" machines. It could have seized up, if you have never oiled it. If you can find a way inside and put a drop of oil on the moving parts, it may fix the problem. Otherwise get a new one on the various cyber Monday sales that are going on. It will cost you more than a new one to have it looked at.

I used to have a Singer machine with a pneumatic foot control rather than an electronic one. If the hose part came even slightly loose from the pedal, the machine wouldn't run. I don't know if they even make those anymore, but just a thought. Good luck!! So frustrating to have to spend time and money when you'd rather be sewing!

Machine will not work/sew if the machine is set up for bobbin winding.
