hello all! a quick FBA question. it's probably been answered many times, sorry about that. I'll try to explain my question as good as i can.

I did an FBA on the lining of V1314.

Here is a pic picafter the FBA. As you may be able to see, i indicated that the upper leg of the dart, is one cm longer than the lower one, due to dropping the apex after FBA.

How should i go about balancing the dart? Should i just fold and then kind of even out the edges after folding like i tried to show here picwith the edge of the triangle?

thanks in advance for any help!!

Add paper along the ss edge, both up/down and width wise. Extend the dart lines into the paper. Fold the dart as it would be sewn, including folding it downward. True up the ss and cut through all the layers as folded. When you unfold the dart, the legs will be exactly as needed. You're done!

thanks. the second pic is actually where i folded it. sorry it's not a clearer picture. the thing is, if i add the paper, won't the dress then become too wide? Should i true up adding in some places and cutting away in others?

Yoiu're only adding paper so that when you true the ss there aren't any "empty" spots where there should be paper.

When you true up the ss/dart legs you use the bodice width at the top of the dart and blend at the ss right below the dart. While it may look like you're adding width you're really only truing up the dart legs and maybe a skosh bit above or below the dart to get a good blending. In my experience not enough to affect the fit.
