I like to make circle skirts with an exposed elastic waistband. Totally simple and totally easy to wear. I follow the Made Circle Skirt Tutorial. I bought some knit that I really love, but when I got it home I realized that it was a bit too sheer to make into a skirt. I'm trying to decide if I should line it with a lightweight knit, figure out how to line it with a lining fabric, or make a slip? I kind of think that making a half circle skirt slip out of lining might be the way to go. Or maybe there is another easy to wear skirt that would be better lined... Does anybody have any ideas of what will or will not work? Thanks so much!

There may be enough overlaps in the fabric of the skirt so that in reality you won't be able to see through it. Otherwise, I'd probably wear a slip. But all of your options would work.

I am also thinking that a circle skirt will have so much overlapping drape that you won't be able to see through it, unless the fabric is white or ivory. If that's the case I would go with the slip idea.

If it is a beautiful pattern or special color that you really wanted to show off, I'd line it with a lightweight attached slip made of a knit. Some knits are very lightweight and are made for this lining purpose. If the knit slip doesn't allow for enough free flowing drape, a lightweight silk might
be nice to work with. However, if the fashion fabric isn't that special I'd go with the slip idea or repurpose its use. I wouldn't spend a lot to line it unless I loved the fashion fabric.

Use the sheer knit as an overlay. Make your skirt out of whatever skirt fabric would complement the knit, and then add the knit over top. Attach one or the other layer to the waistband, so as not to have 2 waistbands happening (nobody wants bulk in the waistline!)
