I'm mostly a garment sewer but have done some quilts... my original way back in college was one tied through with yarn and a puffy polyester batting! I'm still not a "real" quilter so don't follow all the rules but have used warm & natural on the few I've made. It's fine but really thin (imo - I know that's the "norm").
I thought it's what I was grabbing in the store the other day but on touching it was much much softer... and I found I'd grabbed a roll of bamboo batting. It felt so good! I don't know anyone who uses it so wondered why would you want to use w&n vs. this since it's so soft... more flexible? Does one last longer? Feel warmer? Have better/poorer loft when quilted through? Other? Thanks!

I can only speak for me ...

Bamboo is not readily available in my area - I would need to order it most of the time. And it's not cheap, even before shipping costs are added in. I can order W&N from Joann's website on sale and a full roll of the stuff isn't half the cost of bamboo. As they say, to each their own ...

Bamboo (in general as a fiber) is stronger, I think. It's also very soft, and has many of the properties of wool. But it's vegan and doesn't itch, lol.

I have some bamboo socks that are amazing.

I used a bamboo batting when making a pair of cot quilts for my friend's twin babies. As well as being light and soft, it is also naturally anti-mould/mildew.

It was lovely to work with; I machine quilted it. It can be machine washed & dried, too.

An advantage of bamboo over cotton is that it stays warm when wet, like wool does, which is why I wear bamboo clothes for kayaking. Also like wool, it is an easily renewable crop...

Can't speak for batting, sorry!

LOL, sorry, yes it is (unless treated with things that are not - I honestly don't know what batting gets treated with).

It's just that (as Josie stated), bamboo is more comparable to wool when it comes to advantages in using the yarn as a clothing fiber. And wool is not vegan.

I LOVE bamboo batting.

It is soft and drapes so beautifully.

I hate to start a rumor but I remember hearing that bamboo batting catches fire more easily than cotton. I have bee avoiding it since I heard that.
