Hi- I have had this machine for more than a year but have hardly used it- I bought it in like new condition and have had it professionally checked. The upper looper is threading fine.

I have watched the videos online and also have the manual so I am 99% certain I am doing things correctly. But the upper looper thread doesn't "shoot all the way through". The thread gets "sucked in" fine but jams as it exits/ It curls up right after "the exit hole" and will not go through the external parts of the upper looper.

I can't see how to do it manually from there and it is not really designed to do manually nor do I want to do it manually- I'd like to get it working- the "easy threading" is why I bought his brand. However I would be willing to manually thread it rather than having to quit sewing, but I cannot see how to do that either.

Any advice much appreciated!

Is it plenty long enough? Try pulling a lot more thread down from the spool and see if that'll work. Usually when the thread length isn't long enough it'll do something like what you say. Is it good, new(vs really old and possibly over dry) thread?

There is a fine wire that comes with the machine. It is used to clean jammed tubes. You might have some lint in there that is causing the jam up.

Absolutely loving my Janome 500e embroidery machine, very creative. Problem with all my stash for clothing!

You probably need the wire thingy to pull the thread through manually.

If you have dealer who services the machine, perhaps you can call them & order that part. In the meantime, maybe they can get the thread through for you.

I presume you're pulling out enough thread to make it through the looper. But I've neglected to do that on occasion & pulled my hair out before figuring out that I just needed more free thread.

I also have had this problem with my Imagine. First, of course, you have to make sure that you've followed the instructions exactly: the green marks on the body and the wheel have to be lined up, and the selector lever has to be in the right place or the "receiver" tube will be shut rather than open, and the thread will ball up at the front of the closed pipe, rather than shooting in and up, as it's supposed to.

Even so, I've found that there seems to be an intermittent glitch in the system, in that when I've called my genius sewing machine mechanic, the Imagine has absolutely refused to misbehave for him! Noooo, he's the deity, and we act nice when he's around!

The wire threading tool works very well not only to clear fuzz and crud, but to thread the looper. Once the machine is successfully threaded, I try truly hard to use the "tie-on" method to change colors and avoid the alas sometimes mysteriously faulty air-jet mechanism

Thank you 9 years later! I've never had any trouble threading my Imagine serger. I didn't know I had that long wire thing. It works!
