I've been perusing Crafsty black Friday sale classes, and I'm wondering about the Linda Lee Fit Yourself class. Has anyone taken it? How does she approach pattern fitting... slash and spread? pivot and slide? her own combination of techniques??? The preview isn't helpful at all.

Good Morning:

I just ordered this class. Have a house full of company, but if you don't get an answer back by Monday I will take a quick look and try to get back to you.

I'm in that class as well. So far I have just viewed the first two videos. I do now have my tape measure, with the safety pin attached, complete and ready to go.

I have attended many Palmer Pletsch fitting classes in Portland. Their method is the slash and spread. I believe Sandra Betzina uses the pivot and slide method. So I am anxious to see how the rest of this class goes.

I wish there was a way to rank all the classes on actual usefulness to beginning, intermediate, and advanced sewers rather than only individual reviews. So many of us take these classes, it would be helpful to know which are worth paying for. Remember the classes here on Pattern Review, too... they are worthwhile.

Anyone have an algorithm to rank the classes from reviews here on PR? We'd all rather spend our money on winners instead of classes we don't benefit much from.

I did this class when they had their "one price for October" thing. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot, but I was coming from the perspective of NO fitting classes at all. She uses the slash & spread method, but I really liked it because she shows how to make adjustments for yourself, without a partner to help. I liked it so much, I bought it when it went on sale this week.

I've taken the class, and I definitely picked up a few pointers. She starts measuring the the patterns and makes flat pattern adjustments. Then she makes a muslin, tries it on, alters and makes adjustments to the flat pattern.

In the course of doing this, she flat pattern measures like Nancy Zieman and Sandra Betzina. I don't recall her slashing the pattern. She makes the distinctions among the major shoulder adjustments, forward thrust, sloping, and balancing the shoulders clear. Because of this class, I understand how these alterations differ and how to make the adjustments correctly. You won't find must information about bust adjustments in the class. As with Linda Lee's other classes, she is methodical, prepared, and stresses accuracy.

Bear in mind that she uses patterns for a top and slacks with very simple lines and lots of wearing ease, so the fitting is very basic. However, she hits many of the high spots that impact most of us: getting the shoulders placed correctly, the rise in pants, full abdomens, waistbands, etc.

I prefer classes where the teacher grapples with an actual project and so it is great to watch Linda fitting herself, together with all of the contortions necessary when doing this job alone.

If you're already expert at fitting, this class may be too basic for you, but I found that I benefitted from Linda's clear teaching style.

Take the course. If it's too basic, just let Craftsy know and they'll refund your money without hassle.
