Hello,
I bought a hobby sewing machine that suppports twin needles and sews through leather very nicely.
However - I noticed that there don't seem to be any producers of twin-needles for leather materials, why is that the case?
Thanks

Probably not enough demand.
Have you tried Schmetz's consumer customer support?

Probably just since they think no one would buy them or use them for anything very often at all, even if someone made one someplace. So if there is no money to made manufacturing something, that's probably an incentive not to make something? I don't see twin needle made kind of pin tucks in leather very often. Also the underside of twin needle stitching is not very strong and very exposed and prone to getting caught in something or pulled or rubbed off friction wise, just since it's only that one bobbin thread there and strung out and exposed across a large area on the back of the fabric.
But if you want to use one decorative for something twin needle-ish, (like embroidery with some fancy stitches built into a machine) I think they just expect you to use a regular twin needle instead.

They break and are expensive? Personally, I prefer using a single needle for topstitching anything since I find it more precise and I have more freedom to make the width of the topstitching what I want. I use my coverstitch machine on knits only even though people do use it on woven fabrics, because it has built in stretch which I don't need on other fabrics.
