Wool Coat

Nothing keeps you warm and stylish more than a fully lined Wool Coat or Overcoat.  Wool, which is derived from the fleece of sheep, goats and alpacas needs to be sheared, then spun into fibers to make the textile that we can wear. There is many classifications of these wool textiles from raw wool to synthetic blends, the most luxurious being Merino Wool from the sheep's namesake. China has remained the greatest producers of wool per weight, followed closely by Australia. Not only are wool coats made of different types of wool coating (boiled, twill, tweed, Gabardine, brushed, etc.) but come in multiple styles. These styles come and go with the trends but the classics remain such as the car overcoat (single breasted), Chesterfield, Duffle, and Peacoat (double-breasted).  If you want to try your hand at making your own, you will have the daunting task of choosing the right pattern and wool fabric. Sew according to the weight of the wool is key to success and well worth the effort.

At PatternReview we are well aware of what is trending among our reviewers.  Our members love to make wool coats, in all shapes and sizes. We are here to introduce you to many new and older coat patterns from all over our shop from various designers.  Let's take a look at the most popular wool coat patterns available in the PatternReview shop.

Love all the beautiful coats! I need to make myself a new one with fabric I've had stashed for far too long.
