Pattern Size:Regular Petite

Even though my mom is only a C-cup we did some kind of FBA. Actually she have very narrow shoulders. So I traced size 12 at the shoulders (still seems a bit too larger), then pivoted the pattern pieces out to size 14 at bust. Yet it still seams too small at the bust. I redraw the side seams to match size 14 at the waist. According to measurements she needed size 16 at hips, so that's how I redrew the skirt. But in the end this made some wheird things at the hips, so I reshaped the side seam aft...

It is really pretty, and fits your mother so well-she looks lovely in it! I don't blame her for asking for another :D

This is beautiful! It should be about 6 inches shorter, she has a great shape!! I don't believe us "older" ladies should wear minis for sure, but this dress definitely could go up a little--she looks just GREAT in it.

OP Gal, thank you pointing me to the forums. I did read everything I could on FBA's, still I didn't find an answer to this particular bias cut example. But I posted a question on the boards, so maybe I will get some answers. Thank you.

Very pretty dress. It was so nice of you to sew for her. This is the place to find answers to your sewing questions. Go to the Pattern Modifications, Design Changes thread on the message board. There is a pinned topic on full bust alterations there. I'm not sure if doing an FBA on bias is the same as for on-grain fabric, but if you don't find your answer on the pinned topic thread, post a question and you'll get lots of helpful answers from fellow PR members.

I think it really looks nice on your mom. She wears it so casually and naturally. How nice to have a daughter to do personalized sewing and fitting for her! Great job.

The dress looks beautiful - I can see why she wants another one.

The dress looks very nice on your mom. I hope someone has an answer for you regarding a bigger FBA on a bias bodice. Would love to know that myself. :) Thanks for the great review.

The dress looks good! The staystich and clip at the point of the V is the way I usually handle that V shape - it's in some instruction sets and not others...

Thanks for those kind comments. Of course I am also proud that she was so happy and I am a bit jealous of her figure at almost 60 =).

Your mom looks so proud of you and happy to be wearing something special that you made. It sounds like you stitched the point correctly.

I agree - it's lovely and looks beautiful on your Mom! I have never tried one of those necklines - it looks challenging... I'm sure your second one will go more quickly. Thanks for the review!
