I recently purchased the embroidery software from Bernina. I want to take my pet photos and use them in embroidery projects.
So far I am not impressed with the outcome! I am new to this and maybe I am missing some steps (at least I hope am I, will be very disappointed if this is the best that the program does). I have a photo of my embroidery but doesn't seem to be an option to post photos.
Has anyone had experience with the software and converting photo's to embroidery?

I've only used Pfaff Premier embroidery software with Photostitch. I made a gorgeous photo embroidery of a 1930s photograph of my grandmother. I couldn't just run it through the digitizing program & DONE, though. It took a tremendous amount of work on my computer using the editing modules to soften lines, take out backgrounds & dark areas, reshape parts of the face, remove or add shading, draw in parts that didn't come out cleanly, etc.
I'd think that that's going to be true for any photostitch embroidery.
I previously tried to do one of my dog too. I never finished editing it on my computer. It was really difficult to get the fur correct.
I think when you create a photostitch embroidery, you have to be very adept at editing. Keep at it. Good luck!

I haven't used Bernina's software, but they pretty much work the same way, and they aren't easy. It just takes starting with the right photograph and a lot of practice. The good news is there are a lot of tutorials out there. As I said they all are very similar, just read and watch tutorials that are available and be ready to spend some time with it.
Editing your photograph before you even bring it into the software is the most helpful thing. It can be done without buying super expensive photo editing software, there's just a learning curve in how to do it. Basically you want to reduce background distractions while having some contrast to make the subject stand out. Then concentrate on making the subject recognizable with as few similar colors as possible. Simple is best.

Thanks for the input. I was getting discouraged. Now I have some hope! :)

I have Bernina 8. I’ve had the basic software classes at my dealer, and I’m now in a monthly software club. We will do a photo stitch lesson later this year.
Photo stitch is challenging. I was told by another student that our instructor did a photo stitch design last year that was very hard to tell apart from the photograph it was based on. It was a photograph of her grandmother. So I know it is possible to get an excellent photo stitch replica, but I think you have to be pretty well-versed in the software. I know adjusting contrast is a huge factor in getting a good result.
I’d look for lessons online. There is a national Bernina educator that makes videos for our club lessons, Debbi Lashbrook, and she really knows the software.
Good luck. 8 has unbelievable capability, but you have to climb that learning curve.

Thanks! I’m glad to know it’s possible to accomplish.
