Has anyone tried this bag pattern? (Moderated by Sharon1952)

A friend has this pattern and asked me to help her, as she was having a problem and couldn't figure it out. Ha!! Honestly, I've been sewing for over 50 years and when I looked at the "pattern pieces" I was completely flummoxed and confused. They were just incomprehensible to me. I will try to post a picture. Just wondered if anyone else had tried this pattern and was as confused as me. Interestingly, I emailed Linda White at the email listed on the back of the pattern and got a Mailer Daemon response.

From the pics of the pattern I found by searching, it looks like it should be a pretty easy pattern, but that doesn't mean the directions have been well written, nor that the pattern pieces make sense. I too have been sewing for over 50 years, and have encountered more badly written patterns than I care to remember. That has been especially true with independent patterns. In the '80-90s resurgence of quilting, many branched out into clothing patterns, which could be interesting, at best.
I just made a cork bag that was similar, cloning one I bought. (I wanted cork, but with certain changes from the fabric original.)
If you can post pics of the issues, there may be help to be found.

Hi kitphantom, thanks for your reply and validation that there are some pretty awful patterns out there. You are so correct, it's a simple bag, almost no pattern needed. But honestly, the instructions brought new meaning to the word "confusing." Once again, interesting to me that the email address on the pattern doesn't exist and there isn't anyone here on the PR forums who has made the bag.
It's a friend of mine who is making the bag and she has already decided how to fix her issue, which was that the lining was too short. She's going to cut another lining piece. That was one of the issues with the pattern pieces. In the written instructions it tells you not to cut the front lining until after you have "completed step 8" of sewing. Nowhere on the actual pattern piece does it caution you about this. I know they always say to read the instructions fully before starting, but it seems like a simple matter to note that on a pattern piece.
Phew, sorry I got carried away, thanks again for your response!

I don't know that pattern but I have been sewing Swoon patterns. lots of styles and great directions. They have a facebook group too and everyone on there is helpful. Lots of Indies have bad directions. Is there a youtube tutorial for that pattern?

Marie367, thanks so much for replying. I've heard good things about Swoon. I'm not making this bag, a friend is, but I will check youtube, had not thought of that.

One listing I found for that pattern lists a copyright of 2018, so it may be that the company is no longer in business. A google search certainly doesn't result in much but places selling couple of patterns from it

I know you're post is from 4 years ago, but I have a question that hopefully you or your friend can answer. I'm trying to understand the directions, but Step 14 makes no sense to me. It says "see red lines in picture", but I only see 1 red line. I'm making the large bag. Any suggestion as to what I'm to do here. The email for Linda White is non existent. Thanks so much! Connie
