Hi,

I have been taking digitizing lessons. The lessons were taught using Hatch software by Wilcom who also designed Bernina 8 software.
In the Hatch program there is a tool called branching. I can't seem to find that tool in the Bernina software. Is there a branching tool in the Bernina software? Is it named something else other than branching?

Thank you!

I'm not sure what branch tool is. My first thought was maybe you are looking for the wreath tool that takes an object, multiplies it, and arranges in a circular fashion. Looking online it seems that maybe the branch tool is for sequencing the objects? If that is what you are looking for, there are a few ways to do it. You can sequence objects by dragging them to the desired order in the object toolbar. I can't recall the name of it at the moment and I'm not near my computer, but its located on the right side of screen. I think you can look for object sequencing in the built in manual and find it that way. You'll also want to check your jump stitches, and look for the start and end stitches for each object if you want to get really precise about the stitchout.

Thank you for the response!

From what I understand it has more to do the a start point and and end point and reconfigures so there are no jump stitches.

Ok, You certainly can do that in bernina 8 software. It is not a simple button press, though, but a series of steps to align the stop/start for each item, and then fine tune the jump stitches. I'm going from memory, but i think you select the object to change, then switch to stitch edit view (might be a keyboard shortcut to press H after selecting the object). Then you should see little dots representing the stitches, and there will be a diamond around the starting stitch and a circle ( or square?) around the last stitch( i might have those backwards). You can click and drag these items (the diamond or the circle/square) to where you want the start and stop points to be. To adjust the jump stitches you can drag the items in the object sidebar on the right for the order you want them to out. Do a slow redraw to check how things will stitch out. I think i may be missing a step here... i remember there is a menu item for reworking the jump stitches after you do this, but cant remember what that is called.... I can get to a computer this weekend and maybe write some better instructions. In the meantime, there is a manual in the Help menu. You can search for Jump Stitch and for Edit Stitches and you should find some articles in there. Hopee that helps for now.

Hi sewington, it took me a bit longer than expected to sit down with my software. I think these are the items you are looking for. Hope this helps! Digitizing is an occasional hobby for me. I probably play more with the software than I actually embroider.

Start and Stop Points
To change your start or stop points, select the object digitized. Select Reshape from the toolbar (or press the shortcut key, H). You'll see a green diamond surrounding the start point and a red plus sign over the stop point. Drag them to where you want to start and stop.

You can set automatic start and stop points so designs will, by default, have a start in a particular area of the design. From the Design menu, select Auto Start and End to see your options. Even better, you can save these settings to your design template so they are always there for you when you start digitizing. From the File menu, select Save as Template.

Sequencing Objects
For sequencing, this can be done by object color in the Color Film docker. Color Film is a toolbar that shows the objects. It'll be on the right side of the screen, but can be moved. If it is closed, you can reopen it from the Window menu by selecting Dockers, then Color Film. To change the sequence that objects will stitch out, simply click and drag to the position desired.

There's a little trick I use if I have several objects the same color, as they will stitch out in the order created. You can change each object to a different color that isn't used elsewhere in the design, then move it to desired sequence. I do a slow redraw in Stitch Player (shortcut key is Shift + r) , and then change the color back to the desired color.

Jump Stitches
For jump stitches, you can see where they are by using stitch view. To do this, click on View menu, the deselect the Artistic View (or use the shortcut key T)

Tie Off and Trim
You might also be interested in exploring the automatic tie-on and tie-off which is something I adjust with nearly every design. If you have an embroidery machine with an automatic cutter, this is a great feature as you won't have to stop during the stitch-out to trim the threads. Select an object, right click and go to Object Properties. Click on the Connectors tab. Here you will see your Trim and Tie Off options.
