button hole stitch on apleque (sp) (Moderated by EleanorSews)

Hi, I'm doing an applique wall hanging and the directions say to do a button hole stitch around the edges, but my machine (Brother CS 8150) requires a foot that will only go about 2 inches and then turn around. Is a button hole stitch really just a tight zig zag stitch? Can I just use that?
Also, I already did everything in a blanket stich, but I don't like the way it turned out. Can I rip out the stiches, or will they leave too big of holes?
Thanks for your help!

A buttonhole stitch is similar to a blanket stitch, but much smaller. It's not the buttonhole function on your sewing machine.
As to holes/ripping out ... depends on the fabric. Do you have scraps you can test?

Do you know where I can get a sheet of all the different types of stitches and what they look like so I'd know what I was dealing with?

Here is one.
Here is another, very extensive.
I'm going to copy this into the other thread you posted so if anyone searches in the future, it will be answered.
