My daughter gave me a pair of jeans that the zipper is unzipping by itself. How do I fix that? I haven't a clue where to start. Do I need to completely replace this zipper?

Please help!

Here's what I use to keep those pesky zippers up. Scroll down the page to "zipper safe". They work like a charm.

I had a pair of jeans like that once. I took a small ring from a keychain, hooked it on to the zipper pull, then looped it over the button before I buttoned up the jeans. A bit of a PITA, but not as much as replacing a zipper in jeans.

Ronda, I couldn't find Seaspur's zipper safe on the site to which she linked. But if your DD doesn't want to use a gadget to hold up the zipper, yes, you must replace it. Yes, it's a hateful job.

I use a loop of hat elastic thru the zipper plug and loop this over the button to keep the zipper up.

Seaspur led you to the right location -- A Great Notion. I've noticed "Zipper Safe" in their printed catalogue. It's $3.50 for a package of three. You fasten it to the zipper full and it has a hook that goes over the button. I've always thought these would be handy to have and Seaspur has just encouraged me to purchase some on my next order to A Great Notion. It's a great business but the website is awkward so I always telephone in orders -- Here's the toll free number -- 1-800-309-2829.

Before I took sewing back up I remember taking a pair of jeans to a local tailor because of this problem. He smiled, took out a hammer, gave the the zip tab pull (or whatever you call it) a quick tap and it was as good as new.

That's what I was afraid of!

I'll mention the zipper holder thing to her and see if she's okay with that. It doesn't 'show' does it?

Otherwise, yuk! This is a short little zipper and I don't want to do it.

Thanks, ladies!

Oh Rhonda - is it one of those 3 inchish zippers? Use one of the ideas here - replacing it is a large pain! I was trying to get a replacement zipper that lenght once. The lady at the store asked "oh is it for a Barbie Doll?"!!

Yes! I was just looking at it and how I will need to replace it and was stunned when I realized it was a 3" zipper. I remember taking some jeans to an alteration lady for my exchange student 2 years ago and it was around $7.50 to have it done.

Yep! You guessed it. They are headed to her today.

Some things are just worth paying for!

Thanks again!
