Hello, I have a bunch of untouched patterns I will soon be listing on Ebay. Most are from the 50, 60 & 70's. Where can I find out how old does a pattern have to be to make it a vintage pattern.
And then I am tempted to keep some of these patterns as I go thru them, but I am downsizing! But tempted! LOL

Well, the online definition of "vintage" says it's when something is out of date, no longer fashionable or modern. Also, a period of time when something appeared, or began, or when someone was born or flourished.

In my opinion, I'd say all your patterns from the 70's on back qualify as vintage.

Hi Sewing-Notions,

I just had to laugh at your question - it seems that the older I get, the closer "vintage" seems to be gaining on me!

The 60s & 70s were, in a way, my heydays. So when someone says "vintage," my first thought is "Oh yes, those patterns from the 30s & 40s." I keep seeing things on eBay labeled vintage that I remember clearly as brand new! At this point, even the 80s are considered vintage by some. (Can the 90s be far behind?)

On the other hand, the term "antique" does have a specific meaning, but that depends on what item you are talking about. Most things have to be 100 years old or older to be called antique, unless you have a car - there the accepted antique turning point seems to be 50 years old.

So go ahead and list your patterns as "vintage." And good luck!

Regards,

Sophiecat
