trouble w/buttonholder w/White D'Lite (Moderated by EleanorSews)

I finally got the buttonholer foot attached correctly and threaded OK. Then I did a trial run on a scrap of cotton fabric. It looked pretty good if not a little small in width ( no higher setting option on electronic.
When I then went to sew my little fleece jacket buttons the whole darned thing just sewed back and forth in one place creating a mess for me to unravel. I am determined to conquer this one however it will have to wait until Monday when I'm fesh again.

Welcome to the fun with buttonholes( at least thats what I call IT!) The problem you are having is according to the reference books I haveis due to not having the material stablized properly and the buttonhole foot sensor can`t work properly because there is to much give with the fabric .You have 2 choices both take a lot of time and practice 1. learn to make your own buttonholes by hand or bound 2.buy some heavy cut-way and zig zag thestablizer to the back of your fabric and try your button hole foot again. If that dose not work then zigzag to the front as well GOOD LUCK

Fleece is tricky to do buttonholes on.
You want to use some sort of stabilizer on the backside of the buttonhole.
Here is a link on some tips for doing buttonholes in fleece.
I'm just starting to make Simplicity 4032, and have researched the dilemma of fleece buttonholes a bit in preparation. I plan to use a water soluble stabilizer on the outside, and a tear-away stablizer on the inside, and a piece of sew-in interfacing in between the double-layered flounce.
Other things I've heard is that you want to adjust your buttonhole settings so that the top and bottom of the buttonhole aren't so dense. The regular density can be a little too much for fleece.
Good luck!

Another thing to consider is that automatic buttonholers sometimes need to be "reset" between buttonholes. So make sure you are following the instructions carefully :)
