I know that this is not new to many of you but I just traced off my first Burda WOF pattern using the soil separator paper. I made duplicates of the pant pieces and sewed them up for a great muslin. This is wonderful stuff! I love that I can make the muslin and any changes and then rip out the basting and have the pattern ready to go. And, even better, it looks as if the pants will fit too!

ps - I also love the price!

Patti,
Where did you find your soil separator fabric? I'm in Nebraska and I've been to every home store and they all look at me like I'm out of my mind!

Carriff has really spiffed up it's website since the last time I was there. This is the company that makes the soil separator fabric; I bought my supply directly from their website.
Soil Separator Fabric for Sewing
On-line ordering
I bought the 36" wide roll, which is just about the same width as my cutting table.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

I use the 36" size, too. Our area is loaded with Home Depots and Ace Hardwares and Lowes - but Lowes is the only store that carries the stuff here.
Side note: I loaned my roll of SS paper to a friend a few weeks ago when the runner she had ordered for her DD's wedding didn't arrive in time. She was able to buy a runner locally, but used the SS paper as swags around planters at the reception. Said it looked good.....You just never know when you'll need good septic system supplies!

I found mine at Home Depot. It was on a shelf in the plumbing area and only one employee knew where it was! It's the 36" by 150 ft roll and cost $14.99. I see that that size isn't available on the website but my roll is from Carriff. Karla, you're right, you never know when and where you'll need some good hardware supplies. Really, using this to drape is a cool idea -- hope I remember when I need to drape something!
I see that they make bags to filter grapes ... I'll bet this stuff has all kinds of uses. Well, my capris are cut out and ready to sew ... so off I go.

Has anyone used both soil separator and patter tracing cloth? I've only used the pattern stuff and wonder how they compare. The pattern stuff is stiffer than fabric and rips too easily On the other hand it's easy to baste through if you need to add on for length or width as you're fitting. It's much wider, so it's good for really big pieces but a PITA to wrestle on a smaller cutting surface.

StitchMD, this tip might be useful. I find that it very hard for any kind of pen or pencil to adhere to the soil separator tissue - pen ink just won't dry, but smears forever after I've traced. I should check out the gel pens people have mentioned.

Try using colored pencils - the lead is softer than a regular pencil, and doesn't tear the s/s and won't bleed through. I use the cheap Crayola kind from the drugstore - plus you can mark with a variety of colors.

Thanks Nikki, I'll give that a try!

So are you saying that you trace the pattern onto the soil separator paper and then basted those pieces together to try on? Wow! I thought I had followed all of the soil separator paper discussions but I had missed that it can be used to make a muslin. That is great.
