I need some help. I have a 4900 that is not even a year old.
Not much use until recently. Straight and zig zag worked fine, when I tried the embroidery where it had to make numerous stiches for a small dsigned, the machine jammed, thread gatered in a ball under the needle plate, and locked the fabric into the hole. I had to use scissors to cut out and clean in the bobbin area, I tried again. I jammed, this time I had to remove the needle plate and the bobbin case was ajar. I had to reseat the bobbin case, then I noticed the needle plate would not go in to screw down. I moved the bobbin race, I think that is what it is, until the needle plate fit the way it should to screw down. Then I noticed on the next test that the thread is coming out of or will not go into the take up lever and they the machine jams again. I can't keep the thread in the take up lever....I tried to zig zag over a piece of pants elastic with fabric covering the elastic and the machien jammed and showed Error 5. When I saw that they take up lever was not picking up the thread, I gave up. I am now back to trying to see if I can see what the machine is doing around the take up lever, but hard to see, when you cannot readily remove the case. I NEED SOMEONE'S HELP.
I APPRECIATE ANYONES REPSONSE. I read that the 4900 was bad about the take up lever.....has anyone else had this problem and what can we do about it. Thank you Diana

When you say "embroidery" you mean the decorative stitching this machine does? It isn't an embroidery machine. When you do the deco things this machine can do I would think you would need to use a stabilizer layer. That always helps when using deco stitching that is more intricate than the plainer ones, and it also helps alphabet work.

Have you taken out the bobbin and bobbin case and cleaned it all out in there as instructed in the manual, and then taken out the thread and completely re-threaded the machine top and bottom? And changed the needle to a size and type appropriate to the stitching you are doing?

If you have done all of this, and still have problems, it is time to see the dealer for support. I wouldn't mess around with this problem too long before getting your dealers or another sewing machine tech's help.

Good luck!

Could your thread be catching in the notch in the spool? Some threads also work better if put on the vertical upright spool pin that comes with your machine. Maybe try this upright spool pin and see if that helps with the problem.

I have a Janome 4900. I have been making masks and working on piecing a quilt. It is sewing well, no problems, but today I have a blank display screen. Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated.
