I like to sew for home decorating, clothing, and crafts. I've used my mother's basic janome for years but I moved and she took it backSo I need a sewing machine of my own for around 300$. I am looking at computerized machines like the Janome Magnolia 7330, and I found online an older model of Janome called the 7061nx. Anyone heard of this? Like it?

Then I'm looking at older machines like the Janome Sew Precise or the viking emerald series 116 or 118.

Any advice? I'm at a loss. The computer versus mechanical is confusing. Some say good things about the computerized then some say stick with the mechanical.

I would love the Janome threadbanger 30 but it's out of my price range.

Help me!

There's a Kenmore machine that matches the TB 30. Some have ordered it online under a different model # at a greatly reduced (clearanced) price. so I hope you'll find out where from someone else. I don't know if that particular machine is still available through Sears or not--it is highly rated and is around $300. I'm a little leery of the Emerald models...some have had issues with those. The others would be safe-bets but I don't believe the Sew Precise has adjustable presser foot pressure and i'm not sure about the 7330. I do believe at your price-point, the Kenmores will give you the most for your money and they have proven track records.

Go to the sears site and put kenmore 19110 sewing machine in the search box. I believe this has many more stitches than the TB30. Some online stores are selling the same machine under a different # for less but right now, Sears has it for $279. Check out the 19233 also. Several have ordered it so I was hoping someone would chime in for you.

I second (or third?) the Kenmore 19110. My friend bought one the other day, and I got to play with it. It's an awesome machine, especially for the price!

Janome makes this machine for Kenmore, so you're actually getting a Janome (you seem to be partial to them).
