hi,
a search on the site didn't get me anything...........so,
(maybe this will help someone else too)

any suggestions for the problem of the bobbin thread not catching the upper needle thread?

i took out the bobbin case and the gear thing that moves to move the bobbin -doesn't move.....
not when the hand wheel is moved or when i run the needle, but it does when i move it with my fingers or a screwdriver...
also, a few times it moved a bit and then the needle stops on the metal part (when i tried moving the hand wheel) and even broke a needle once when i tried the hand wheel........

this machine was given to my mom (with the manual) within the past couple of years but she has not used it, i'm trying to see how well it works...........and this is the issue

the motor works fine and the needle works fine.....
i'm pretty sure i threaded it right, although the pictures and description are not super detailed......

Have you tried cleaning and oiling it? If you haven't, try doing that, take the needle out and run it to get the oil through. You could also try aiming a hair dryer at the bobbin area. If it hasn't been used in some years the grease and oil may have gummed up and the heat will loosen it. Also try a different needle. Your manual will tell you the oiling points and what kind of needle to use.

Hey,

Just new and all... but I've had the same problem. Doing some checking and tearing apart the machine, I found I needed to adjust the timing - but not being big on the technical side of things, I have no idea why - but that worked to ensure the needle wasn't clashing with anything it shouldn't be.

...I now have a bird nesting problem after fixing that - but it might solve your problem to do th timing adjust :)

When the metal hook around the bobbincase dosn't move as you are turning the handwheel towards you by hand it has a broken gear. That's why it moves when you turn it by hand or poke at it with a screw driver. The machine has a bottom piece that's easily removed and you can see if there are plastic little pieces inside. Gears come in sets of 2, and there's 3 sets in the machine (the others control the neddle bar moving up/down and the feed dogs moving forward.) Gears have a metal base that attach them inside the machine with plastic teeth to make it move. When these are broken off or worn out the part the gear controls no longer functions.
