Babylock Ellageo Plus vs Brother Duetta 4500D (Moderated by Pyrose)
Posted on: 7/17/13 4:14 PM ET
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the Duetta 4500D is actually an upgrade from the Babylock Ellageo Plus. I am less than a year into sewing/embroidery/quilting but like the extra little things like the automatic needle threader and thread cutting in the embroidery mode. Can anyone tell me if purchasing the Brother (used) would be a step up? Thanks for any input.

Hi, yes the Brother Duetta 4500D is a much better machine as far as upgrades. The Babylock Ellageo Plus machine is a sewing/embroidery machine that can only embroider up to a 5 by 7 hooping in one pass. The led screen is not in color and is much smaller than The Duetta. I own the Duetta 4500D machine. The embroidery speed of the Babylock machine is 650, while the Duetta can run at 1000 spm. The Duetta has border designs along with more fonts and Disney designs. It comes with 4 hoops. The largest hoop is 7 by 12inches. There are also many more decorative stitches in the sewing side of the machine. The biggest upgrade is that it can cut the jump stitches and also when the thread colors need to be changed out. This machine used to be the top of the line before the Quattro was introduced.

Thank you so much. That helps me tremendously! I have the opportunity to purchase the Brother machine at a steal.

Don't forget to sew on it before you buy it. Also make sure the needle threader works if that's important to you.
Be sure that the jump stitch cutting works well or does the thread get caught and then you have to take the hoop off and pull the thread manually. Don't take their word for it working, insist on sewing on the machine.

This isn't quite accurate, actually. The Babylock Ellageo Plus is the newest version of the Ellageo model and can embroider up to a 6 x 10 field. It even comes with that size hoop, along with the 5 x 7 and 4 x 4. The LED screen IS in color, unlike the Esante which has a black and white screen. The speed on the Ellageo is up to 800 spm.
The Brother Duetta 4500 (or it's sister/cousin/twin, Babylock Ellegante) do have some great advantages over the Ellageo Plus. The greatest advantage is the automatic needle threader and the automatic jump stitch cutter. Once you have that, you will wonder how you ever did without it!

Hi, Sorry, I was looking at the wrong machine on the Babylock site. The machine does go up to the 6 by 10 inch hoop and the screen is in color. I do like the fact that it does have more decorative stitches and more embroidery designs and that it can cut the jump stitches. I upgraded from the Brother 2500D that I had upgraded to a 2800D. I bought the Duetta last August because I wanted the automatic cutting of the jump stitches and the fact that I plan to upgrade this machine in a few months and get the border hoop and some other upgrades for this machine. I just started machine embroidery last year and purchased the Brother PE770 on Amazon. Loved the hobby so much that after a month, I returned it and bought a Babylock Esante. Kept loving the embroidery and traded it in during the 3 month period for the Ellisimo. I have never regretted my decision.
The cutting of the jump stitches is HUGE with me. I couldn't imagine being without it at this point. Certainly makes embroidering MUCH easier!

I love my Ellageo Plus! BUT...after taking a class and using a machine with the automatic threader and thread cutting I kind of fell in love with it. Thanks for all the input.

Yup! I know exactly what you're talking about.....like I said, once you use that automatic jump stitch thread cutter and needle threader, there is no turning back. LOL!
Let us know what you decide and if you end up getting that Brother.
