Pattern Description:
Misses’ elastic waist shorts and pants have side front pockets. A: Cuffed legs. B: Side seam ribbon trim and pleated pockets with flaps. C: Pleated pockets and elastic at ankle.
Pattern Sizing:
Size A (S-M-L-XL). I made a muslin using size M and made a few slight adjustments noted below.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Generally speaking, yes. The instructions regarding the waistband casing could have more clearly stated that the opening in the casing for the elastic should be such that the opening is on the inside of the waistband when it is flipped up. Also, as noted by other reviewers, the cargo pockets are a little fussy to sew on. You basically need to turn the seam allowance under and sew the pocket down the onto the pants while keeping the extra “cargo” fabric out of the way. Look for the YouTube video on how to do it.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Liked Styling and fit.
Dislike…In my muslin I found the waistband was too narrow to feed the elastic through, so I added a scant 1/8” to the width of the waist casing (along the full length) before using my fashion fabric. This extra little ease definitely helped. Similarly, I found it challenging to feed the 2” elastic into the ankle casing and then sew the casing opening shut! Unfortunately I didn’t test the ankle casing in my muslin so I was too late to do much about it. Next time, I will make a vertical opening in the ankle seam to feed the elastic through the casing rather than leaving a horizontal gap in the casing line.
Fabric Used:
Dove grey polyester satin from Joann’s clearance table. I loved the look of the dressy fabric on the pattern cover and duplicated that look. Having not sewn with polyester satin before, I had no idea it would grey so much and be hard to press. My serger came in very handy to help encase the frayed edges. I did 5he best I could with pressing using a clapper.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
For fitting purposes, I added 1/2” to each side seam, and I shifted the crotch length by adding 1” to center back and shortening center front by 1/2” and graded this adjustment to transition across the side seam and across the front pockets. I also added 2” to the pants length but next time will only add 1”. After finishing it, I realized the designer was right in making View C finish at the ankle bone so the fabric at the back of the leg doesn’t puddle at your ankle in the back. It is a different length from most other pants so it was bit hard to gauge.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Absolutely. I love the style and the fit and plan to make it in a lightweight denim.

I agree with Aixoise...I would not have imagined cargo pants as dressy either but they look absolutely amazing!

What great pants! I wouldn't have imagined them as dressy, but you've shown that they can be dressed up with the right top and shoes, or casual. Love them!
