Fit: Boxy or Loose (lots of ease)
Pattern Description:
Raglan t-shirt with a curved hem. Four sleeve lengths are included.
Pattern Sizing:
This pattern only comes in a size L for a 38" bust.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
The finished shirt looks like a raglan-sleeve tee, but a bit looser than the original.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Instructions are pretty easy, and pretty basic. Unfortunately, she doesn't tell you to staystitch the neckline, which I should have done regardless. Read more below.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: The pattern is free; a simple project; a nice basic raglan tee; a variety of sleeve lengths included.
Dislikes: The pattern is only one size. The author made it to fit her and shared it with others who are the same size. A bit more sewing detail would be good for beginners.
Fabric Used:
Some sort of thermal knit that I picked up a few months ago at a craft swap.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The pattern is designed for a 38" bust. I have about a 39" bust so instead of 1/2" seams, I sewed 3/8" seams. I didn't need to do that. I ended up taking in the shirt around 1" under the arms and at the chest.
I was blindly following along with the instructions as I just wanted to get this shirt done. The author doesn't have you staystitch the collar and then has you stretch the binding as you sew it to the collar area. The collar got very stretched out. I had sewn it on with a lightning stitch, so there was no way to get it off. After pondering alternatives for a bit, I decided to thread some 1/4" soft stretch elastic through the neck binding. It pulled it in nicely and I saved the top.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This shirt was sewn as a muslin before I try it again with Polartec. I feel that I can recommend the pattern if you are around the same size as the author or are comfortable with pattern alteration.
Conclusion:
I need some warmer shirts for winter. I bought some Polartec and wanted a simple long-sleeved tee. I have issues with narrow shoulders and haven't finished my sloper yet, so decided a raglan would fit the bill. Did a search for free patterns and found this one. Autumn's opening lines pulled me in:
"Ok, I have a beef with tee shirts lately. Why are they all made out of thin, clingy fabric? What’s the deal? Don’t the manufacturers know I’m trying to hide my muffin top, not put it on display?"
It fit the bill for my needs. Now that I know where I need to make changes for fit, I can make this again.

What a colorful, fun tee! The fit looks nice. You did a lovely job matching those hearts. The neckline looks perfect with your genius save.

It looks good - the rows of hearts line up nicely from sleeve to body and back to sleeve. Great save for the neckband - I've used that elastic trick myself.
