Pattern Description:
Misses’ dress with sleeve and length variations
Pattern Sizing:
U.S. 8 - 16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I have made View B four times for my pre-teen and teen granddaughters. I liked (and they like) the neckline, easy fitting waist, hips and flowing length of the design, and the simple narrow hemming on the sleeves and hem. Very versatile dress that is very cool in hot weather when made with breathable fabric. I chose all-over patterned fabric, but one of my choices was more of an obvious diagonal, and while it took some time to match the pattern, it worked out.
Fabric Used:
Rayon Challis from LyricalFabrics and FrankieRose Designs on Etsy
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I shortened the bodice length 1” and the skirt length 4” for one dress that I made in size 10, the other 3, I made a size 12 without alterations. This dress fits well with elastic cut for waist measurements larger than the pattern body measurements, mine were between 27” and 30”.
I underlined all the pieces that attached to the elastic casings (bodice front and back, waist, yoke) with white cotton lawn to stabilize the rayon challis, machine stitching the underlining to each piece of the dress fabric before assembling the dress. I also finished the seam allowances with a 3 thread serger stitch, and was generous with the casing width seam to make it easier for the elastic to go in.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, taking into account the extra step of underlining the pieces, and allowing enough time to do that, I would.
Conclusion:
This easy-fitting dress in a beautiful print makes it ideal for many body types, and looks great for regular wear, you’ll find yourself choosing it often.
